London
The National Portrait Gallery holds portraits of the men and women who have shaped British history and culture, reopened in 2023 after a major refurbishment. Its earliest acquisition, the Chandos portrait, is the likeliest life portrait of Shakespeare. The collection runs from Tudor monarchs to contemporary photography, just off Trafalgar Square.
