London
The British Library is one of the largest libraries in the world, holding some 170 million items beside the railway lines at St Pancras. Its free Treasures Gallery displays Magna Carta, the Lindisfarne Gospels, Shakespeare's First Folio, and Beatles lyrics drafted on scraps of paper. A six-storey glass tower of George III's library rises through the centre of the building.
