Paris
The Crypte archéologique de l'Île de la Cité preserves excavated remains beneath the square in front of Notre-Dame, from Gallo-Roman quays to medieval streets and cellars. Walkways pass over foundations uncovered from the 1960s onward. It traces two thousand years of building on the island where Paris began.
