Venice
The Giardini della Biennale are the public gardens laid out under Napoleon that became the historic home of the Venice Biennale in 1895. They hold some thirty permanent national pavilions, many of them landmark works of twentieth-century architecture, around a Central Pavilion. The art exhibition fills them every other year; in between, the gardens are quiet.
