The Churchill War Rooms preserve the underground bunker from which Winston Churchill and his government directed the Second World War, left much as they were when the lights were switched off in 1945. The Map Room and Cabinet Room survive intact, and an adjoining museum traces Churchill's life. The complex lies beneath Whitehall near St James's Park.
