Baths of Caracalla

The Baths of Caracalla, completed around AD 216, were among the largest public baths of ancient Rome, serving more than a thousand bathers at a time. Towering brick walls, fragments of mosaic, and the outlines of pools survive across the vast site. Opera is staged among the ruins in summer.
