Venice
The Jewish Museum of Venice stands in the Cannaregio district where the word ghetto originated, the quarter to which the city's Jews were confined from 1516. It holds ceremonial silver, textiles, and books, and guided visits climb to the historic synagogues hidden in the upper floors of the surrounding buildings. The Ghetto remains the heart of Jewish Venice.
