Saugus
Saugus Iron Works preserves the site of one of North America's first integrated ironworks, operating in the 1640s on the Saugus River. The blast furnace, forge, and rolling mill standing today are reconstructions, built from archaeological excavations that recovered the original foundations. A restored seventeenth-century house and the working waterwheels interpret early colonial industry.
