The Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle centres on the Jardin des Plantes, where several galleries hold France's national natural history collections. The Grande Galerie de l'Évolution stages a procession of taxidermied animals beneath a glazed roof, and separate galleries cover paleontology and mineralogy. The gardens and a small zoo surround them.
