La Fenice, the phoenix, is Venice's opera house, rebuilt after fires in 1836 and again in 1996 and reopened in 2003. The gilded auditorium has staged premieres by Verdi and Stravinsky. Self-guided tours take in the horseshoe of boxes and the royal box.
