The National Gallery of Art holds the nation's collection of European and American art across two buildings linked beneath the National Mall, the neoclassical West Building and I. M. Pei's angular East Building. Its holdings include Leonardo da Vinci's Ginevra de' Benci, the only painting by the artist in the Americas, alongside Vermeer, Rembrandt, and a deep American collection. Admission is free, as at the Smithsonian museums nearby.
