London
The London Mithraeum displays the reconstructed remains of a Roman temple to the god Mithras, discovered in 1954 and now returned to its original site beneath an office building in the City. Visitors descend to the temple floor through a haze of light and sound evoking the cult's rites. A wall of objects excavated nearby, from writing tablets to leather shoes, fills the ground floor.
