Vienna
The State Hall of the Austrian National Library, completed in 1730, is among the grandest Baroque library interiors in the world. A barrel-vaulted hall nearly eighty metres long holds some two hundred thousand volumes beneath a frescoed dome, lined with walnut shelving and Venetian globes. It was built for the imperial court library of Emperor Charles VI.
