London
The Natural History Museum holds some eighty million specimens in a vast Romanesque building on Cromwell Road, its terracotta facade carved with living and extinct creatures. The skeleton of a blue whale, named Hope, dives through the central Hintze Hall. Galleries of dinosaurs, minerals, and an earthquake simulation fill the wings, and admission is free.
