The Markets of Trajan, a multi-level complex of brick halls built into the slope of the Quirinal, are often called the world's oldest shopping centre. They now house the Museo dei Fori Imperiali, which interprets the Imperial Forums through surviving fragments. Walkways pass through the vaulted Great Hall and along the ancient streets.
